Frilly and Fabulous Week 4!

Break out the frou frou! For the month of February, the Dream Team are going Frilly and Fabulous! Vintage, retro, or modern, adding extra charm with fun Fran•tagé products from Stampendous, ribbons and lace from May Arts, buttons, crystals, charms, or even creating your own dimensional decor! A snippet or a pile, whatever your creative heart desires! Remember to link your creations using the Inlinkz tool on the Dream It Up! blog for a chance to win the stencil of your choice! Bonus points for using Dreamweaver and/or Stampendousproduct in your work of heart.

I just love how beautifully the Dreamweaver and Stampendous products go together, it's like they were made for each other! My card this week is a blend of Dreamweaver stencils, Fran•tagé products, Stampendous stamps, and, of course, a beautiful ribbon from May Arts.  Here's what I've been playing with:

This card has several steps, but was fairly easy to create. Just follow these simple steps:

  • Paste emboss the Long stem iris stencil (LL374) on acetate using Glossy White Embossing Paste, let dry thoroughly. This takes quite a bit longer on acetate, so I tend to do that part ahead of time and just keep a stash of pasted images for a quick card.
  • After the pasted image is dry, place the stencil back over the dry paste and use alcohol inks or markers to color the Glossy White paste (I used COPICs).
  • Cut the Iris out of the acetate and set aside.
  • Place the Iris stencil on a piece of white cardstock, tape in place with some removable tape.
  • Use a black Micron pen (I used an 01) to outline the openings of the stencil.
  • Remove the stencil and color the image with COPICs or markers that match the acetate image.
  • Airbrush or spritz a little green ink in the lower part of the design.
  • Stamp a saying in the upper right (I used a saying from the Thoughtful Wishes set (SSC1158)).
  • Sprinkle some Stampendous Golden Sand embossing powder along the lower edge of the design, heat from below to melt it and sprinkle some taupe Color fragements on the warm powder, heat again from underneath to set those in place.
  • Mount the white piece to a green mat, tie a beautiful bow off to the right side.
  • Emboss a piece of lavendar cardstock, using LX7025 Crusade Bkgd, by running it through your die cut machine (remember, big platform, stencil face down, cardstock, rubber embossing mat, two cutting plates)
  • Attach the embossed cardstock to a white card, add the Iris layer.
  • Cut some small pieces of foam tape to place on the back of the Iris on the acetate, and adhere along the left edge of the embellished layer.
The finished product has so much dimension and texture. I wish you could see it in person! Here's one last peak...

Frilly and Fabulous Week 3!

Break out the frou frou! For the month of February, the Dream Team are going Frilly and Fabulous! Mine aren't exactly "frilly" this week, but I think they are "Fabulous"!  When I first saw the new Frigate stencil (LG763), I thought,  "What in the world am I going to do with that!" But when given a challenge of something outside my comfort zone, I like to think I can create something presentable!  I had so much fun designing my sample card for Dreamweaver, I decided to create a whole class using the Frigate! I'll be teaching it at Memories and Beyond in Downers Grove, IL on Tuesday, March 3rd, click here for the details. Here's what I've been playing with:

LG763 Frigate stencil, Glossy Black Embossing Paste on white cardstock, let dry, cut out bottom edge
LX7029 Spiral dots, stenciled with blue inks using a stencil brush, on white cardstock
May Arts braided twine tied in sailor's knots
While it's not very "frilly", I like how the background and ship look together. The knots really added the finishing touch to the card.
So then I decided to design a 3 card class around this stencil. Here are the cards we'll be creating on the 3rd:
Stenciled using Memento Inks and stencil brushes
LL332 Picasso was used to create the "clouds"

Gold Leaf Technique using Metallic Gold Embossing Paste as the base

Matte Black Embossing Paste with Metallic F/X Powders

This week I've been playing with a 6" x 6" canvas. After putting a light coat of some different pink acrylic paints, I started with the large flourish and it just kind of "evolved" from there! I really like how it turned out and hope you do too.
