One of my Favorites!

This week we have been asked to share our favorite projects from the latest catalog releases. Here is one of my very favorite things that I created for the January catalog.

This peaceful home decor piece features the beautiful Maidenhair Fern Stencil (DWLJ846), with the Honeycomb Stencil (DWLJ806) in the background.  Here's how it's done:

DWDPK Dreamweaver Palette Knife
DWLM2010 Paste Spreader
Metallic F/X Kiwi

Plus
6" x 8" Canvas
Faber Castell Gesso
Paint brush
DecoArt Metallic Lustre Iced Espresso
Palette Stamp and Stick
Foam Applicator
Swiffer cloth
Black Frame 8" x 10"
Tacky Glue

Instructions

Step 1:  Tape the Honeycomb stencil towards one end of a 6" x 8" canvas with removable tape

Step 2:  Use a palette knife and paste spreader to apply a coat of Regular Embossing Paste over the stencil, remove and clean the stencil, let paste dry

Step 3:  Line up the stencil over part of the dry paste and towards the other end of the canvas, and apply paste over the other end of the canvas, remove and clean stencil, let paste dry

Step 4:  Paint a coat of Gesso over the entire canvas, dry well

Step 5:  Use your finger (dip it in a little water first) to apply a streaky coat of DecoArt Metallic Lustre Iced Espresso across the embossed image and around the edges, let dry

Step 6:  Tape the Maidenhair Fern stencil over the Honeycomb pattern with removable tape and apply a coat of Regular Embossing Paste, remove and clean the stencil, let the paste dry

Step 7:  Place the clean, dry stencil over the dry paste and use a foam applicator to apply Palette Stamp and Stick Glue, remove and clean stencil while the glue gets tacky

Step 8:  Use a soft brush to apply a coat of Metallic F/X Kiwi powder on the fern, use a Swiffer cloth to gently buff off any extra powders

Step 9:  Cut an 8" x 10" piece of Mixed Media White Paper and use a finger to swipe Metallic Lustre Iced Espresso over the paper

Step 10:  Adhere the canvas to the background paper, let dry

Step 11:  Apply some Metallic Lustre Iced Espresso lightly around the frame, buff lightly with a soft cloth, place the canvas in the frame

On a side note...I think this would be stunning with the fern done in Black Matte Embossing Paste, then the Kiwi powder on black, it would give it a whole different feel.
