Open Owl

Happy 31 Days of Halloween! It is happening again this year and the Stampendous Design Team members are just as excited to be bringing a daily dose of Halloween inspiration. We had such a great time for the Smeared Ink blog hop last year with Terra that we wanted to come back for another year and then we didn’t sign up in time. We’ll still provide their hop list every day so you won’t miss out on the fabulous projects from them.

And of course, there are PRIZES!!! We have tons of prizes for this hop and as usual, comment on our blog and our design team blogs that get linked up here throughout our 31 Days post! See Official Contest Rules and then watch for details in our Monday post when we get the hop into full swing.

Our theme this week is "The Eyes of Halloween", another perfect theme for the 31 Days of Halloween challenge!

Today I am featuring the Dreamweaver Open Owl Stencil (DWLG751) sitting on a "bed" of twigs made from the Leafless Tree Die Cut (DWDX7020).  I think he has fabulous eyes and eyebrows! Besides, it Stencil Thursday!

Stampendous:
MPW811 Mixed Media White Paper
DCP1006 Fitted Frames B Die Cuts - R

Dreamweaver:
DWLG751 Open Owl Stencil
DWDMBP Matte Black Embossing Paste
DWDPK Dreamweaver Palette Knife
DWLM2010 Paste Spreader
DWDX7020 Leafless Tree Die Cut

Plus:
My Colors Cardstock - Cloak Gray
CCP2239 Canvas Corp Grey and White Mini Dot Reverse
Micron 05 Black Pen
Black cardstock
Double-sided adhesive sheets
Zutter 1/2" Corner Rounder
Copic 100 Black marker
X-acto knife and cutting mat
Mini Glue Dots

Instructions:
Step 1:  Fold a 6" x 9 1/2" piece of Cloak Gray cardstock in half to form an A6 card, round the corners
Step 2:  Die cut a white and gray layer from the Fitted Frames set size R
Step 3: Tape the Open Owl stencil to the larger white die cut frame with removable tape
Step 4:  Use a palette knife and paste spreader to apply Matte Black Embossing Paste over the stencil, remove the stencil and place in water for cleaning, let the paste dry very thoroughly
Step 5:  Lay the stencil on the gray dotted paper and trace the openings with a Micron pen, adhere double-side adhesive to the back of the paper, cut out the pieces, edge each piece with a black marker, adhere them on the matching areas of the pasted image except the eyes and claws
Step 6: Cut a piece of white cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", round corners and edge with black marker, adhere to the front of the card
Step 7:  Adhere the Owl to the matching gray mat, use an x-acto knife to cut around the claw area, adhere to the card front
Step 8: Die cut the Leafless Tree from black cardstock, cut apart the branches
Step 9: Lift the claws and use Mini Glue Dots to add some branches under the claws

Stop over at the Stampendous Blog for today's list!

Today, I will have a second post featuring a sneak peak of my favorite creation from the October catalog. Click here for the link.

Happy Creating,

Love the look of the glossy black embossing paste and the dotted paper. The branches are an awesome addition to the card. Nice!

Love that owl.
the big eyebrows are wonderful.
Popping his wings (and his feet?)
is a good idea.
the twigs really give him a nice
perch.
I have to put this one on my list.
thanks for sharing.

Brilliant. I need to learn so much more about working with stencils-I would have never thought of this. I have a dear friend who loves owls, I need to work on being able to do this.
