Wait until you see the colorful inspiration we have for you this week! We are Blogging in Color!
3 Lucky Winners this week will get three sets of the PITT Pastel Pencils (red/yellow, blue/green, neutrals), a jar of Faber-Castell Chalkboard Paint, and $20 Stampendous reward card to choose their favorite images to color! WOW… these winners must have a U.S. mailing address (official rules here!)… BUT WAIT- Aussie Fans – The Stencil Specialist has you covered again this time!! One Australian Fan will win a Stampendous Stamp, a Dreamweaver Stencil (LJ size customer choice), and one Dreamweaver Stencils Regular Embossing Paste. Wow!!
My creation today was inspired by a wonderful tutorial by Jill Foster that I found on the Faber-Castell website. See it here. I have never done a Mixed Media project quite like this before, so I decided it was about time I tried!. Wow, what fun! The best part is, you just find things you have that work together, mix and match, and before you know it you have layers upon wonderful layers of color and texture. I followed along the video step by step this first time to get the feel for how it works. Here's how mine turned out:
"Just be you!" |
- Start with a gesso primed 5" x 7" canvas
- Dry emboss LJ912, LJ914, and LJ915 stencils on white cardstock through a die cut machine
- Swipe Archival Ink over each (LJ912 - Manganese Blue, LJ914 - Olive, LJ915 Chrome Yellow)
- Cut each pattern into various width strips
- Attach to the canvas with Faber-Castell Gel Medium (applied with a brush), put another coat over the top of the paper too, and make sure to put some on the sides
- Dry with a heat tool
- Stamp a light colored mulberry or tissue paper with the Wired stamps from Stampendous (NKCRS02) in Archival Jet Black (I used the dots and the netting looking stamps)
- Cut into 3/4" strips and attach randomly around the edged with Gel Medium
- Dry well
- Randomly spread some Faber-Castell Gesso over the design and sides, dry well
- Color each area with similiar colored Gelatos and blend with your fingers
- Spray with a fixative so the Gelatos won't reactivate
- The Rooster (LG732) is from my stash of Dreamweaver images that haven't yet made it onto a card. This was done with the Faux Cloisonne technique (matte paste, ink applied with stencil brushes, clear embossing powder). I cut out the Rooster, leaving him attched to the fence, and the sun and applied them to the background with Gel Medium
- The definitions are stamped from the Musical Motif set (CRS7003) using Jet Black ink on light blue mulberry paper, torn, and attached around the design with Gel Medium, dry well
- Use PITT Artist Pens in Walnut Brown, Cold Grey and Black to add some shadows around different parts of the design and between the original strips
- I used the dot stencil that comes with the Wired set, and a foam brush to add some dots around the canvas, dried them, then colored lightly with Gelatos to soften them a little
- The words are from a saying in the Life Words set (SSC1213), stamped in Jet Black, cut apart, attach with Gel Medium, dried, then colored with a yellow PITT Pastel Pencil from the yellow/red set
- Use the PITT Artist Pens to continue shading where you want (like around the words, rooster, sun)
- I thought the lower right corner needed a little something, so I added a clump of black grass-like strips, then layered an Olive-colored ric-rak and brown netting from May Arts across the bottom
- The flower was made by cutting two cream colored daisies off a piece of May Arts flower ribbon, misting them with water and dragging them thru a scribble of ArtGRIP Aquarelle red pencil on my craft mat to color them, dry, punch a little hole and hold together with a brad
The fun part about projects like this is you never know how they will turn out! I had so much fun making this, and definitely will be doing others!
