February Flutters!

The Dreamweaver challenge for the month of February  is in full swing. It will be a short month of posts for the Dream Team, but we're pretty excited to share with you our versions of"February Flutters", meaning anything that flutters. Heart flutters, wings that flutter, breezes, sails, etc. So, come along for the ride and link your own "flutterings" to the Dream It Up! blog for a chance to win the stencil of your choice. 

Meanwhile, here's my "fluttering" for the week featuring the new Zen Butterfly (LL3037) stencil.

To create this project, just follow these simple steps:

• Tape the stencil to white cardstock with removable tape
• Use a palette knife to apply two dollops of Glossy Blue Embossing Paste to a paste spreader and one of Glossy Green Embossing Paste
• Use the palette knife to gently swirl the two pastes together, be careful not to mix them too much
• Apply the blended paste across the stencil
• Save left over paste in a small container
• Remove the stencil and place in water for cleaning
• Sprinkle the wet paste with Crystal glitter, tap off extra and let paste dry
• While the paste dries, use a 3/4" stencil brush and the clean, dry butterfly stencil to stencil some butterflies in the background of a piece of light blue-green cardstock
• Layer into a beautiful card, embellish with a small bow

Welcome to the annual Dreamweaver and Woodware Christmas in August extravaganza week! Monday through Saturday we will be knocking your Christmas stockings off with fun and inspirational ideas for the upcoming holidays. All that you need to do is hop back and forth across the "pond" on each day, oohing and aaahhhing as you go, and leaving us plenty of holiday love. In return, you'll be entered to randomly win one prize package for a UK commenter, and a second prize package for a US commenter, featuring products distributed in the UK by Woodware...including Dreamweaver and Stampendous!

Prize includes four stencils, one die, and two stamps, selection may vary.

Here's what I've created for today:

This sweet combination of Dreamweaver Stencils and a Stampendous House Mouse design go so well together. Plus it was easy to do!

• Stamp the Monica & Friend House Mouse design with Memento Tuxedo Black on cardstock
• Color with COPIC markers, or the markers you like to use
• Paint glue on the light bulb and sprinkle with Stickles Dry Glitter Christmas Red
• Use a small paint brush to stipple "snow" around the ground with Glossy White Embossing Paste from Dreamweaver
• Sprinkle the wet paste with Crystal glitter or Stickles Dry Glitter Distress Rock Candy
• Set aside to dry
• Tape the Xmas lights border stencil to white cardstock with removable tape
• Use a palette knife and paste spreader to apply Glossy Green Embossing Paste
• Remove stencil and place in water for cleaning later
• Use a cut straw or small spoon to sprinkle the lights with glitter (I used Stickles Dry Fine Glitter True Blue, Christmas Red, and Eucalyptus) carefully taping off after each color, try to avoid the cord
• Let dry
• Paste the Season's Greetings with the Glossy Green Embossing Paste also
• Remove the stencil and place in water for cleaning later
• Use a cut straw or small spoon to apply Christmas Red glitter to the S and G only
• Let dry
• Assemble as shown

Inspired by a Pin!

This month the design team at Dreamweaver Stencils has been given a fun challenge, we are to base our creations on something we've been inspired by on Pinterest. You can search for virtually anything on Pinterest and it will bring back hundreds (or more!) of ideas and images. One of my favorite flowers is the Bird of Paradise, so I decided to see what was out out there. Oh my! There was everything from garden ideas to shoes, fabric, tattoos, botanical prints, photos, watercolors, quilling, and LOTS more. I found some incredible vintage prints, and this amazing quilt in my search. So while no one image was my inspiration this week, I definitely was inspired to create a card using Dreamweaver's beautiful Long bird o'paradise stencil (LL454) and the Jungle leaves (LJ825) stencil for the background. Here's how it came out:

I love the combination of bold color (orange) and soft (green) background, and the Crackle Embossing Paste was the perfect touch to give it a lot more texture. Here are the steps:

• Tape your stencil to smooth cream cardstock with removable tape
• Use a palette knife and paste spreader to apply a coat of Glossy Green Embossing Paste
• Remove and clean the stencil, let the paste dry completely (about 50 minutes)
• Tape the stencil back over the dry paste and apply a coat of Crackle Embossing Paste
• Remove and clean the stencil, let the paste dry completely
• In the meantime, dry emboss the Jungle leaves stencil on white cardstock with a die cut machine and rubber embossing mat
• Remove the stencil, place the leaves raised side up on a piece of copy paper and use a 1/2" or 3/4" in brush to sweep color in from the edge towards the center all along one side, turn the image and do the next side, repeat until all four sides have been colored. I used Distress Inks Peeled Paint and Forest Moss.
• Mount the leaves on orange cardstock
• Add two small strips of orange near the bottom
• To color the flower, place your clean stencil back over the dry crackle paste and use 1/4" stencil brushes to add color. Use a Picasso (LL332) stencil to help shield areas from other colors.
• On the flowers I used Distress Inks Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Fired Brick, Faded Jeans and Dusty Concord. Yes, I really did! One the leaves I used Peeled Paint and Forest Moss.
• Use the larger green brush from the background leaves to add color around the edge of the flowers
• Mount the flower on a blue or purple mat to pick up the little part of the flower with blue on it
• Use foam tape to add the flower to the front of the card

Love and Friendship

Here we are in the final week of February already!  Where do the weeks go. This is the last posting for our Dreamweaver Stencils theme of CAS Love and/or Friendship. We hope you've enjoyed our creations this month and remember we especially love when you play along with us or leave us comments.
This week I created a simple card that could easily be used for any kind of note you wanted to send, Thank You, Thinking of You, Birthday, Anniversary, Sympathy, etc.  It is always wonderful to receive a handwritten note from a friend.

Here are the simple steps:

• Tape the Sm. Fern Frond stencil (LM2006) to white cardstock with removable tape
• Use a palette knife and paste spreader to apply Glossy Green Embossing Paste across the stencil
• Remove and clean the stencil, let paste dry
• When the paste dries, place the clean dry stencil back over the dry paste
• Use a finger dauber to apply a coat of Palette Stamp & Stick Glue over the green paste
• Remove the stencil and use a small stencil brush to apply Kiwi Metallic F/X powder over the design
• Layer into a beautiful card!

Let the countdown begin!

Well, Thanksgiving is over and the leftovers are gone, Black Friday shopping was fun, but the countdown to Christmas has begun! I know we have an extra week this year with Thanksgiving being so early, but somehow it still seems like there won't be enough time to get everything done in time! Then again, I feel that way every year and every year it all works out, so take time to enjoy a nice holiday latte and spend time with family and friends, it'll all get done. This week I have the great pleasure of taking care of my granddaughter every day! I'm sure I'll be exhausted when I get home!

The Dreamweaver Stencils design team has been creating clean and simple holiday cards to help you simplify your card making this year without sacrificing beauty. Here's a very quick and easy card that you can create in multiples using the power pasting technique featured on Lynell's great Embossing Paste Techniques DVD.

Here are the simple steps:

• Tape the Season's Greetings (LG677) stencil to light green textured cardstock with removable tape
• Apply Glossy Green Embossing Paste across the stencil using a palette knife and paste spreader
• Remove and clean the stencil, let paste dry
• Place the clean, dry stencil back over the dry paste and apply Palette Stamp and Stick on the holly leaves using a finger dabber and the Picasso (LL332) to shield the areas you don't want glue on
• Remove the stencil and let the glue stand about 3-5 minutes to get tacky
• Use a large stencil brush to pounce Gold Leaf sheets over the holly leaves, rouge firmly with the brush to remove the excess leafing
• Layer the holly layer on dark green shimmer cardstock, then onto another light green layer and a red card (the red strip across the middle adds a nice accent)
• Make several and send to your favorite friends!

Christmas in August Week 3

The days are definitely getting shorter here in northern Illinois, and the nights have been a little cooler too. Before we know it the holidays will be upon us again, so it's  not a bad idea to start putting some thought into holiday card making in August!
This week I want to share another card using the same two stencils I showed you at the beginning of the month. Here's the first card again, just to remind you:

I know! Can you believe how different they look. Even though each uses the Glossy Green Embossing Paste on the Christmas stencil, by using different finishing techniques you get a completely new look.
For the second card:

• Use a small stencil brush and Brilliance Ivy to color the Holly Flourish design on white or cream cardstock, moving the stencil around to fill the background layer
• Let dry or heat set
• Rouge Distress Inks around the background with a sponge of foam pad(Fired Brick and Mustard Seed)
• Tape down the Christmas stencil on white or cream cardstock with removable tape
• Apply Glossy Green Embossing Paste with the paste spreader
• Remove and clean the stencil, let paste dry thoroughly
• Rouge Distress Inks over the pasted image with a sponge of foam pad(Fired Brick and Mustard Seed)
• Edge both layers with the Ivy ink
• Add a beautiful ribbon around the background layer and mount it on the front of the card
• Add the Christmas layer with foam tape

Christmas in August

The Dreamweaver Stencils design team has a real treat for you this month...Christmas in August! We'll start by featuring some of our favorite designs from Christmas' past, and lead into a wonderful week long blog hop during the week of August 20th thru the 25th that will feature the newest designs just released at Summer CHA. You won't want to miss any of the fun!

For this first week, I chose a simple but elegant combination of stencils and techniques to share with you. Here it is:

LG731 Holly Flourish
LL3009 Christmas script

The beautiful Holly Flourish (LG731) stencil was emboss on Natural linen cardstock, deckled along the bottom edge, and Gold Krylon Pen was used to edge all the way around that layer before attaching it to the front of a dark green card.

The Christmas script stencil (LL3009) was paste embossed using the Glossy Green Embossing Paste on Natural Linen cardstock. When the paste was dry, the stencil was put back over the pasted image and a finger dauber was used to apply Palette Stamp and Stick glue over the green paste. The stencil was removed and a heat gun was used to gently heat the glue to make it tacky. Once the glue was ready, I layed a sheet of Green Leaf over the image and used a 1/2" stencil brush to tap the leafing in place and brush away the excess.  Use Gold Krylon around the edges and mount on to a strip of dark green cardstock then to the front of your card.
