Pretty Poinsettia Ornament!

The Stampendous Design Team is excited to share more beautiful designs from the July 2015 Stampendous Catalog. This week our theme is "Pretty Poinsettias", and if you've seen the cover of the new catalog you know why we had to have this theme! If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for! Click here to see it online.

Today I used the Oval Ornament and just the Poinsettia from the Three Christmas Icons stencil to create a beautiful, old-fashioned ornament card.

  2. Turn the image back to the front, tape it all around and use a 1/2" stencil brush to add color around the outer edge of the ornament, use a Picasso tool to shield the topper.
  3. Step 3:    Lay the Three Christmas Icons stencil over the oval and tape in place, use a 1/4" stencil brush and inks to add red ink to the Poinsettia, and gold to the center, use the Picasso tool to place color.

  4. I liked how it looked, but decided it was too flat, so I trimmed the ornament piece to 4" x 4", put the Poinsettia stencil back over it, turned it over and embossed the flower too.

  5. Remove the poinsettia stencil and  place the ornament stencil back on, use the 1/2" brush to add more green ink all around the edges.

  6. Fold a 5 1/2" x 11" piece of dark green cardstock in half to form a square card, trim a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of music paper with a deckle scissors and brush with red, green and gold inks, tape to the front of the card.
  7. Tape the ornament on a red mat, punch a hole in the ornament hanger, add a little gold thread and a May Arts bow to the top of the ornament, adhere the ornament to the card front with foam tape.

  8. Here's a suggestion for the inside of the card, lightly stencil the ornament on cream cardstock, and stamp the sentiment from the Christmas Wishes set using Versafine Onyx Black.

Holidays in a hurry!

The Christmas season is coming fast! I've almost finished my shopping, am having some dear friends over today for lunch (what the season is really about, making time for family and friends!), and leave Friday for a family party in MN (hopefully, if we don't get more snow). My daughter got home last night from college and will be here until after the first of the year, my middle son arrives on the 16th and will be home until the 30th, and my oldest son and his family will be here Christmas morning...life is good!

The Dreamweaver Design Team wants to help you create in a hurry this season for those last minute gifts and finishing touches to make your holidays extra special. We hope that you will enjoy our creations and join in our fun if you have the time. This week I've created  some gift tags for the perfect addition to your presents.

These are easy to create in multiples with the power pasting technique.

  • To power paste put a piece of removable tape along one edge of your stencil
  • Turn the stencil over and put another piece of removable tape on the same edge from the other side so you get a double layer of tape along that one edge (this is your "handle")
  • Place the stencil over a piece of paper cut to the size of the stencil
  • Place a piece of removable tape on the edge opposite of the one you double taped, then on the other two edges
  • Paste your image using a palette knife and paste spreader to apply a layer of embossing paste (I used Matte Black Embossing Paste)
  • Carefully lift the edge of the stencil with the handle while keeping the side opposite it still attached to your surface
  • Slip the pasted image out and slip a new piece of paper under the stencil and repeat the pasting process. I was able to paste four sets of images before I had to clean and dry my stencil
  • I let the paste dry for almost 10 minutes before carefully brushing on some Metallic FX powders for color
  • Let them dry completely before brushing off the excess powders
  • Once dry cut the images apart to triple your counts! I used the beautiful 3 Xmas icons stencil (LL469) for my tags, you can get 8 sets out of 1 piece of paper (that's 24 images in no time at all!)

Matte Black Embossing Paste with Metallic FX powders, before
extra powder is buffed off
Buff off the extra powders and cut the images apart
Cut out a little tag from decorative paper, use the To:/From: part of
LS25 To From Snowflake to stencil the To From on the back of the tag
Add them to your packages
Here's the list of the other designers who have ideas for you this week. Enjoy!

Christmas in August!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIE! Today my family is celebrating our darling granddaughter, Ellie's first birthday! It is hard to believe that a whole year has passed by already! We love you!

It's also hard to believe that this is our last Christmas in August challenge for Dreamweaver Stencils. Every month seems to fly by faster and faster. We hope you have been inspired to create your holiday cards and that we have made it a little easier! We would love for you to join our challenges, just link your creation over at the DREAM it UP! blog or send a photo to lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com and she will post it for you.

This week I was inspired by a technique that we used recently in a card club exchange group I belong to. It is a processes where you cut three layers of matching cardstock( each layer is about 1" smaller each direction) and lightly tack the layers together before stamping a large background image or a smaller image several times. Then you mat each layer in a coordinating color and line them back up. It is a very cool look. Here is the card I created for that club using a couple of stamps from Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz collection:

And here is the card I created using the same process but with  Dreamweaver Stencils products:
LJ922 Christmas borders and LL469 Xmas icons
Glossy Red Embossing Paste and Crystal glitter from Art Glitter
The steps:
  • Cut one piece of white cardstock 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Cut one piece of white cardstock 3 1/4" x 4 1/2"
  • Cut one piece of white cardstock 2 1/4" x 3 1/2"
  • I used a little dot roller in each corner to adhere the three layers one on top of the other
  • Place the Christmas borders stencil (LJ922) on the stack and tape in place with removable tape
  • Use a palette knife and paste spreader to apply a coat of Glossy Red Embossing Paste over the image
  • Remove the stencil and place in water for cleaning later
  • Immediately sprinkle the wet paste with Crystal glitter, carefully tapping off the extra paste
  • Set the layered piece aside to dry
  • Tape the Xmas icons stencil (LL469) to a small square of white cardstock, positioning the poinsettia portion over the paper and taping off the other sections with removable tape
  • Apply Glossy Red Embossing Paste over the poinsettia area
  • Remove stencil and place in water for cleaning later
  • Sprinkle the wet paste with Crystal glitter
  • Set aside to dry
  • Cut one piece of dark green cardstock (I used a shimmer cardstock) 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" (yes, that's right)
  • Cut one piece of dark green cardstock  3 1/2" x 4 3/4"
  • Cut one piece of dark green cardstock  2 1/2" x 3 3/4"
  • Cut one piece of dark green cardstock 1 7/8" x 1 7/8"
  • Cut a strip of dark green cardstock 3/4" x 4 1/4"
  • When the paste is dry, carefully separate the three layers, I ran the edge of my palette knife under the edges to help get them apart
  • Trim the edges of the largest layer right to the edge of the paste
  • Mount each pasted layer on its matching dark green layer and then on top of each other
  • Adhere the strip of dark green across the three layers
  • Trim around the poinsettia image leaving just a small white edge all the way around
  • Mount it on the small dark green square and then on the card front
  • Cut a base card from white cardstock either 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (scored at 4 1/4" for a side fold card) or  4 1/4" x 11" (scored at 5 1/2" for a top fold card)
  • Adhere the card front to the base card
Before you head over to the other team member blogs, I just want to let you know that next month we will be doing a collaboration all month long with the team from Art Glitter! We are very excited and look forward to having our own Kristi Parker Van Doren back as a guest designer for the month! You won't want to miss any of it!
